(DotNetNuke) DNN vs Joomla

Having been released originally in 2008, Joomla is the newest out of all of the popular CMS applications. The name Joomla is an Urdu (Swahili) word meaning “all together,” which is a fitting moniker for a CMS that attempts to be equally approachable by end users, designers and developers. It claims to be the single most popular Open Source CMS worldwide, with “2.7% of the web running on Joomla,” a vast and energetic community and extensive add-ons and extensions available.

Designers talk about Joomla’s extensive creative capabilities, and end users generally express enthusiasm for its user-friendliness. Developers appreciate Joomla’s large capacity for development and customization. But some claim Joomla is still not as flexible as DNN, from the programmer’s perspective. Many people have states that there are some parts of the Joomla system that can’t be pushed and stressed as hard as DotNetNuke, which means if you have a website that brings a lot of traffic, you could have some trouble with Joomla. Moreover, while DNN can be used to run multiple websites with one backend and database, Joomla lacks the ability to create multi-sites.

In comparison with WordPress, Joomla is considerably less user friendly, although it is improving with each new release. The most recent upgrade involved a complete rebuild of the system from the ground-up. While many users argue that this took Joomla to a whole new level, many old die-hard fans are still using the previous version.

A minor week point is Joomla’s inability to work well with Windows; especially, because a majority of global businesses utilize the Windows operating system. Joomla is written with PHP and also utilizes MySQL. It excels by working in relationship with Linux. Joomla administration functions can be tricky to use and has a bit of a learning curve. The security group settings are not as easy to control and set up compared to DNN or WordPress. However, there are some 3rd party modules that will help you with this issue if you wanted to go through the task of installing them.
